Named Donor's Financial Assistance

Exchange Scholarships/Bursaries

Students who join the international exchange programs may encounter financial difficulties to cover their exchange expenses.  The following Exchange Scholarships and Bursaries are available for application around March of the year.

 


The HKUST Alumni Endowment Fund - Exchange Scholarships and Bursaries for Non-local Students (AEF)
 

The AEF Scholarships/Bursaries aims to support non-local full-time undergraduate students from any disciplines of study with financial difficulties to join Schools' exchange programs. Means-tested review is required for all applications.


Full time non-local undergraduate students from any disciplines who will participate in Schools’ exchange programs are eligible for application. There is no restriction on the exchange destination.

Applicants having attained a CGA of 3.15 or above in the latest academic year/semester will be considered for the AEF Scholarships, whereas for those with CGA between 2.50 and 3.149, they will be considered for the AEF Bursaries.
 

The numbers of Scholarships and Bursaries are subject to the Donor’s confirmation of available funding. The value of each Scholarship/Bursary is HK$25,000 regardless of the exchange period for one academic year or semester. The honor of Exchange Scholarship will be recorded on students’ academic transcripts. Successful applicants are required to submit reports on their overseas exchange study to the Donor via SFAO within one month after the completion of the exchange programs.


Hung Choh Jan Fong Scholarships/Bursaries for UG Exchange Studies Overseas (Hung’s)


The Hung’s Bursaries/Scholarships shall be provided to local and non-local students with financial difficulties for participating in School's exchange programs with exchange destination restricted to countries excluding Mainland China and countries in Asia.


Full-time undergraduate (both local and non-local) students from any disciplines who will participate in the Schools’ exchange program with exchange destination restricted to countries excluding Mainland China and countries in Asia are eligible for application.
 

Students could only receive the Bursaries/Scholarships once during their studies in HKUST. Students who have previously received the Hung’s Bursaries/Scholarships will not be considered for application.

Applicants having attained a CGA of 3.15 or above in the latest academic year/semester will be considered for the Hung’s Scholarships, whereas for those with CGA between 2.50 and 3.149, they will be considered for the Hung’s Bursaries.


The numbers of Scholarships and Bursaries are subject to the Donor’s confirmation of available funding. The value of each Scholarship and Bursary is HK$38,000 and HK$36,000 respectively regardless of the exchange period for one academic year or semester.


The honor of Exchange Scholarship will be recorded on students’ academic transcripts.


The offer of scholarships/bursaries would be confirmed upon verification of final exchange destination by respective School. Successful applicants are required to submit reports on their overseas exchange study to the Donor via SFAO within one month after the completion of the exchange programs.
 

Other Bursaries and Loans

 

The University Financial Assistance (UFA) is available for application by students with financial difficulties. All applications are subject to the means-tested review. According to the donors’ requirement, nominees will be selected for donors’ approval from the UFA exercises. There are 2 rounds of UFA exercises each year. The main round would be held in mid-August to late September while the second round would be held in mid-January to late February of the year.
